Responding to the call of bayanihan to defeat the COVID-19 pandemic, the PRA accommodates the Philippine Navy at its PEA Tollway Corporation (PEA TC) compound in the city of Parañaque. The four squad tents of the Philippine Navy’s Naval Task Force 83 are housed at the covered court of the said compound near CAVITEX Parañaque toll plaza since May 8, 2020. As of this writing, the accommodation is expected to be until May 31, 2020.

The Naval Task Force 83 has been conducting security operations in the borders of the National Capital Region and the Province of Cavite to support the checkpoint operations of the Philippine National Police. This is to effectively implement the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) being imposed over the entire Luzon since March 17, 2020. Selected areas in Visayas and Mindanao were also placed under ECQ to control the spread of the pandemic. The Philippine government has been implementing ECQ and stringent social distancing measures to manage the COVID-19 pandemic situation in the country.

Bayanihan is a Filipino custom wherein community members unite and work together to accomplish tasks that would be difficult when done alone. Traditionally done to help someone literally move a house, it is often visually depicted by community members lifting a nipa hut and transferring it from one location to another.

In the case of PRA’s and Philipine Navy’s bayanihan, PRA General Manager and CEO and also PEA TC OIC, Atty. Janilo E. Rubiato, approved the request of Philippine Navy Commander, Captain Lemuel E. Espartinez, for the fleet-marine personnel to transfer their tents to PEA TC compound after their original location was flooded by rain water. Mr. Roberto V. Bontia, President and General Manager of Cavitex Infrastructure Corporation (CIC) seconded the approval.

The CIC is PRA’s joint venture partner for the CAVITEX toll road. The PEA TC is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the PRA assigned to undertake the operations and maintenance obligations of PRA to the CAVITEX project.
