Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA) Addresses Dumaguete City Reclamation Project Concerns
The Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA) swiftly responds to citizen concerns surrounding the alleged unauthorized reclamation project along Rizal Boulevard in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental. This project referred to as the “Seawall for Shoreline Protection,” covering an estimated 1.7-hectare area, was initiated by the Local Government of Dumaguete City as “Pantawan II,” reportedly undertaken without the necessary Area Clearance and Environmental Clearance Certificate.
Under the new leadership of Chairman Atty. Alexander T. Lopez, the PRA engages in a rigorous inter-agency investigation, collaborating with DENR, LGU, and stakeholders to address citizen inquiries and ensure regulatory compliance.
While acknowledging potential project benefits, Chairman Lopez emphasizes the Authority’s dedication to environmental integrity, actively pursuing compliance with environmental regulations and urging unified efforts for environmental sustainability in Dumaguete City.
The PRA calls upon stakeholders to join in responsible coastal development and environmental preservation, aligning with the Authority’s mission to advance economic development for the Filipino people.
Currently, there is a standing Cease and Desist Order on the project, while the illegally reclaimed land faces potential forfeiture by the government if it is found to violate regulatory requirements.
